KOTA KINABALU: Fifty singers and about 50 supporters will take part in a senior solo singing contest, Voice in the Shadows – Our Concert, aimed at boosting tourism.
“This small event can have a big impact,” said Main Organising Chairperson Datuk Eliza Goh.
She added that music videos from the show showcasing Sabah attractions will be released nationwide and viewed overseas.
Open to Malaysians aged 40 and above, the contest promotes friendship among singers from Sabah, Sarawak, and the Peninsula.
“We want more in this age group to discover Sabah, which is modern and full of attractions,” said Eliza, who views the event as her contribution to the state’s tourism push.
Co-organiser Irene Tan said contestants may sing in Mandarin, Cantonese, or Hokkien.
The preliminary round is on August 16, with the final on August 17 at the Putera Theatre Ballroom, Bukit Padang.
Tourism Minister Datuk Seri Christina Liew is expected to officiate.
