KOTA KINABALU: The Palliative Care Association of Kota Kinabalu (PCAKK) welcomed a special guest, Rebecca O’Connor, the internationally acclaimed Tina Turner tribute artiste, who visited the PCAKK Home at Rose Garden.
Her visit came ahead of her headline performance at PCAKK’s 26th annual charity dinner and concert themed “Heart of Gold” at the Sabah International Convention Centre on Aug 8.
During the visit, she spent time with patients, caregivers, volunteers and staff, showing her support for PCAKK’s continuing work in providing palliative care in the community.
She also performed several songs, including Tina’s signature and iconic “Simply the Best”, to entertain those present.
“I am honoured and privileged to sing for the patients and families who are walking the final, most tender chapter of life’s journey.
“Through music, I hope to bring a moment of peace, love and presence a small offering from the heart to comfort theirs,” said Rebecca.
Also joining the visit were winners of the 2025 Unduk Ngadau, along with representatives from the Unduk Ngadau team, who came to lend their support to PCAKK’s mission.
The event also saw a patient, Jessica Magdalena Taimis, 16, realise her dream of becoming an Unduk Ngadau.
She was crowned by reigning 2025 state-level queen Atitih Yatih Robert.
Their presence was a reminder of how culture, community and care can come together in meaningful ways.
This year’s event aims to raise awareness and funding to support PCAKK’s free palliative care services across Kota Kinabalu and its surrounding areas.
Head of State Tun Musa Aman and Toh Puan Faridah Tussin, both long-time supporters of PCAKK and its cause, will be attending the event.
Guests will enjoy a line-up of performances by local talents The String Trio, Zara Flintoff and Rene Barrow.
Since 1995, PCAKK has provided free home-based palliative care to over 5,200 patients with cancer, organ failure, neurodegenerative diseases and other serious illnesses.
The association also supports children with life-limiting conditions and provides emotional and practical support to families.
